THE LOWE DOWN ON YARRAM
At the recent A. G. M. it was decided more motorcycle runs
were the order of the day, subsequently our new President requested that the
Phillip Island and South Gippsland members formulate a day on the Island and
post it on the website.
It occurred to us that as Don Lowe has not been well for
some time therefore not able to join us as much as he would have liked we should
take the opportunity to visit him and Eleanor in their home town of Yarram. The
Yarram Country Club has an excellent Sunday lunch deal for $10 so it was decided
this was the ideal venue for a group such as ours.
Naturally the day of the 11th of September
dawned wet and windy as is the usual case when a run is organized in this part
of the world, but it didn’t deter the hardy souls who assembled at the Pelican
Cafe in Tooradin. Those who enjoyed a coffee before departure were Taxi & Auntie
Beryl, Gary & Glenda Powers, both of these couples were travelling in cars due
to various viruses being endured. On bikes were Casper, The Colonel (leading the
ride) Richo, a couple of local Phillip Island riders, (Simon & Paul), Aldo and
lastly your humble scribe. Joining us in Korumburra was a mate of Simons adding
to our number. On arrival at Yarram we were greeted by Noel Harris, Doc. Procter
and two of his Grandsons, a couple of members of The Yarram Lodge and their
wives, and of course Don and Eleanor Lowe making up an excellent number at the
lunch table.
The food was good and the company better with much banter
taking place. Don was looking well and we wish him and Eleanor good health in
the future.
The Colonel lead the ride home but I decided to stay and
visit an old friend from the Island who had only that week been admitted into
specialized care in Yarram. It is a disturbing indication of our health system
when a person from Phillip Island is admitted into an Aged Care Facility in
Yarram (two hours away) because there is no bed available closer! Anyway it was
great to see him and he was certainly happy to have a visitor from home.
A dry solo ride home took me through some of the most
beautiful countryside in the state where a warm fire awaited me. A good day was
had by all.
