Social ride to Hepburn Springs

Sunday 3rd May 2009

Reported by Richo                                               Return to Reports 2009 Index

We all arrived by 0930 Dean were actually already there so the alarm must have gone off early.

In attendance was Pedro & Bron, David & Viv, Taxi, Colonel, Dean & Tracey Mark with his son Tom, Glen,  Red Baron & Hedy and of course me Richo.

The ride commenced with Pedro giving a brief rundown on the bike route, there was a hint of previous experience with Pedro giving the run down similar to his military experience.

Viv has a new Blue Honda.

Only one question was asked was there any dirt roads. Richo was given an assurance that there would be at some stage a possible dirt/gravel road.

Leaving the Service station and some 100 meters down the road Holden Road to be exact, the gravel/dirt road, clearly the cruiser was at ease with the road and became a scramble bike for approx 3 kms, all that work getting bike clean thank you Pedro.

We continued along Holden Road into Plumpton Road towards Toolern Vale some roads were still in the making stage others not too bad. Changing direction to Gisborne, Mt Macedon/Hanging Rock towards Woodend.

L to R: Pedro, Baron, Hedy, Tom, Mark, Tracey, Dean, Brian, Taxi and Bron at the Hepburn Springs Hotel for a counter lunch.

Our lunch stop point was the Old Hepburn Hotel approx 120 kms from our start point we arrived there approx 12.00 with some very concerned riders as there had been no stop or mini break since we left the Service Station, the relief on some faces was most welcomed.

Lunch was ordered and what a brilliant selection was on offer, several large roast of the day (Beef ) being ordered, some fish dishes, and one burgundy pie, an excellent choice of lemon, lime & bitters washed down the lunch.

High Tech planning and a stop on the way to Bacchus Marsh.

It was then time to move to Bacchus Marsh down through Trentham, Blackwood & Greendale we encounter some very nice some tight some long corners & bends, unfortunately Mark experienced accelerator cable trouble requiring him to fall behind the main pack, we waited ahead for any news none coming it was decided Pedro & Smithy would go back for a recon.

When Pedro returned he advised that all was okay with Mark & Tom and that they would be going directly home not continuing with us to Bacchus Marsh.

Afternoon tea at Bacchus Marsh.

L to R: Dave, Tracey, Dean, Brian, Baron, Hedy, Baron, Pedro, Bron and Richo with Viv behind the camera.

The main body continued to Bacchus Marsh where an afternoon tea was had by all, being now close to 4.00 pm all parties went there separate ways.

An excellent days riding with brilliant weather and very good company, thank you Pedro for organizing the ride.
