Raised $3600 towards VMMA General Charity Fund

Return to Reports 2008 Index

The VMMA main fundraiser for 2008 was a Trivia/Games Night held at the Village Green Hotel function room, this was the same venue we used last year for our Main Fundraiser.

Planning for this event was undertaken by Chris & Dean with promotional material being distributed to all VMMA members and all Lodge's within Melbourne metro area.

Bron, Pedro and Sharyn tallying the proceeds for the evening, well done $3600

It appeared by the large number of apologies received that Saturday 21st June was a very social weekend for a great number of people and that our attendee numbers would be lower than last year.

The response to the request for donations was outstanding from both individuals and companies with a great array of items being being donated along with cash donations from those unable to attend, all the donations will be acknowledged formally via correspondence.

Pedro and M.C. for the night Chris.

It must be mentioned that Keith Fulstow made a generous donation of antique items including Carlton Ware that was not offered on the evening, we will be looking to maximize our return on these items by other means, with all proceeds going into the VMMA General Charity Fund.

We gained access to the function room at 5.00 p.m. with Dean being assisted by Graham & Lois McPherson who turned out to assist with the setup even though they were unable to stay for the event, Woody and Kerry also assisted with Chris, Sharyn, Pedro & Bron to cover ourselves for being a little late we will say the 2nd shift arrived around 5.45 p.m.

Fourty five attendees partook in dinner at the venue prior to commencement of the Trivia/Games night, thank you to those whose registered that they were in attendance for the VMMA Trivia/Games Night.

M.C. for the evening was VMMA President Chris who welcomed everyone for attending and emphasized that the evening was to be a fun night whilst knowing we were raising funds towards the VMMA General Charity Fund.

Woody is looking determined!!!  Cameron back left you made it into the photo.

Dean and Pedro were introduced for Dean was controller of scoring and selling of answers and Pedro was going to Live Auction a number of items during the evening.

After the rules of playing the Trivia were explained and the format of the evening that will include a number of other games in between the trivia games along with the the Silent Auctions, it was straight to game 1.

A pattern immediately became clear that table 4 had plenty of money to spend on questions (that sounds better than may be a lack of knowledge of answers!!!). Table 4 became know as a regular customer to Dean with a number of other tables coming in at a close second.

Village Green Hotel is a great venue for this event.

Some of the games played during the evening were gold coin throwing with the closest coin winning a bottle of Grouse Whiskey, this became some what embarrassing with the M.C. Chris decided when coin throwing slowed up to add to the fundraising by throwing down some coins, you guessed it his last coin knocked out the closest coin and Chris was the person to call the game closed, well this could not be done with his coin closest so the offer went out that the person who knocks Chris's coin away from the bottle is the winner, quick thinking Jane Turner stood up and kicked the coin away and was the winner, but then continued the good will and gave it away to a worthy donator to the evening.

We had 2 games involving 100 numbers, prize being $50 note and a $100 note, this game is always popular for an investment of $1 you can win $50 or an investment of $2 you can win $100, thank you Dennis & Anita for providing the numbered boards for these games.

M.C. Chris going through the formalities prior to a fun night that realised $3600

Pedro took to the floor to auction a number of items that include a 2 night accommodation voucher in NSW in an homestead, this generated some fast bidding with Taxi eventually winning the voucher and we trust both Taxi and Beryl will have a great couple days away together relaxing.

The Bunnings $100 gift vouchers secured by Kerry also realised a high percentage of their face value, at the end of the evening the lovely Cyclamens on the tables that were donated by Swinburn University were auctioned and sold just like that.

It was great to see Glenda & Gary Power and friends travel from Moe and Pedro and Bron from Bendigo to participate in the nights activities.

We started to run late and the last game of trivia was not played out with the evening being declared finished around 11.15 p.m., then it was a quick clean up to conclude a very successful fundraiser.
