Return to Reports 2008 Index

The VMMA was invited to once again escort Car 321 at the start of the Annual "Variety Club Bash", but this departure was a land mark for the Car 321 team that have driven Car 321 for the past fourteen years as a team, it is their last drive as a team.

The invitation to escort Car 321 came from W.Bro. Alan Gee, PJGD who in 2006 also invited the VMMA to provide an escort to Car 321 as they departed from Melbourne.

M.W.Bro. Garry Sebo, GM on Jean's Trike (sorry Bob!!!) prior to driving Car 321 on the 1st leg.

The start was at Moonee Valley Racecourse at Moonee Ponds with a gathering time around 9.00 a.m. for a departure time of 10.00 a.m., but as we all know departure times do tend to be ambiguous.

Sharyn, Chris, Bob, Jean and Dean rode in together from Mooroolbark and met the following VMMA members at Moonee Valley Racecourse Paul, Trevor, Mal and Keith on his sidecar outfit.

Alan and his team made us and all other supporters very welcome, whilst waiting for the start there was plenty of time to be introduced to others and discuss our various activities, in particular M.W. Dean Lugton (VMMA President Elect) presented to Alan Gee a bag of VMMA stubby holders to be utilised by Car 321 to assist them with their endeavors to raise funds during the Bash for Variety the children's charity.

Finally around 10.20 a.m. the car's started to fire up their motors along with the many sirens and musical tunes wired into their loudspeaker systems, you could already tell at this point in time that this was going to be another Bash that will entertain everyone as they travel through the various states and the fun was about to start.

The VMMA escort lined up with Bob and Jean on the trike leading in front with Dean and Chris riding behind the trike and then Car 321 being driven by M.W. Bro. Garry Sebo, GM. and followed by Mal, Trevor, Sharyn and Keith.

Mal's Triumph so he reports was over filled with oil (how can you overfill a Triumph?) and required a rev up in the under cover area that could be heard from the front and smelt by those at the rear, wonder if we will get a cartoon of the escort with the overfilled Triumph being cleared of its excess oil?

Our escort was only for a short distance from the Racecourse then we rode up to the shopping strip of Moonee Ponds for a coffee and chat.

Coffee at Moonee Ponds, here is Sharyn with her friends!!!!

Left to R: Woody big head, Keith, Mal's small head and Paul, do not forget Sharyn in the back ground with her friends!!!!
