Sunday 2nd December 2007

Return to Reports 2007 Index

After a successful General Meeting and Christmas break-up at Maryborough on Saturday 1st December it was planned to ride to Ballarat on the Sunday morning to join with MRAA members who were riding up from Melbourne as part of "The Eureka Run 2007" which is one of the many events revolving around Eureka during the week.

Departing Maryborough at 10.00 a.m. we rode to the Shell Servo on the Melbourne side of Ballarat to meet the large group of over 600 motorcycles who have ridden up from Melbourne in a group.

The Shell Servo was a re-grouping point for the final ride into Ballarat, the Lord Mayor of Ballarat met the group at the Servo and rode on the lead bike to The Eureka Stockade and then for the "Thunder Run" up Stuart Street (main drag of Ballarat).

Some of the VMMA members at the Shell Servo.

We also met VMMA members who rode up from Melbourne with the group those being Gary, Els, Ian, Sofia and Mark.

Sharyn was invited to ride at the front of the ride to The Eureka Stockade, for Sharyn is a descendant of James Beattie one of the 13 arrested and tried for treason after the fighting at The Eureka Stockade.

On arrival at The Eureka Stockade there were a number of guest speakers that included Sharyn, who briefly spoke as a descendant of James Beattie and finally a Chaplin who is a local motorcycle rider invited everyone to pray.

The Red Baron appears to be the only VMMA member to continue with the ride named "Thunder Run" which was a ride up and down Stuart Street and concluding at the George Hotel with a live band playing whilst having lunch.

Over 600 motorcycles participated in The Eureka Ride

Most VMMA members departed for home after the visit to The Eureka Stockade.

At 3.00 p.m. the main group of riders departed Ballarat for their ride back to Melbourne.
