Visit to Healesville Lodge No. 247

Master’s Last Night. 8th March 2006.

Return to Reports 2006 Index

Once again we were delighted to support a fellow member of the VMMA; this time Worshipful Brother Chris Wells, Master of the Lodge. This particular last night was to be quite special in that Matt Turner had been working away at gathering lots of interesting and humorous snippets of Chris’s life, to share with those in attendance. More on that later....

Great turn out for Chris's last night.

But first the attendance. Wow…what a roll-up. I reckon you can always gauge the popularity of a person by the support they receive on nights like this. And I’m very pleased to report that Chris is certainly a popular fellow, and is held in high regard amongst his friends. Here’s the list of attendees: Andrew Booth, Russell Medhurst, Murray Sutton, Dave and Vivienne Cash, Matt and Jane Turner, Guy Richards, Eric Palant, Colin Fletcher, Warren Combes, Dean and Terri Lugton, Cameron McMahon, George Allen, Sharyn Wells, Gail O’Loughlin, Bob and Jean Nichols, Phil and Jenny Tinker, Dennis and Anita Setterfield, Brian and Vera Sanders, Ian Goddard, Don Anson, and Pedro Eberbach. It’s worth noting that although VMMA was strongly represented, there were many other visitors who came along to support Chris.

Matt in control and entertaining everyone.

Now, down to business. The Masonic work for the evening was to ‘pass’ Brother Pinkster to the second degree; and what a slick ceremony it was, ably assisted by some VMMA members, and the booming singing of the remaining VMMA members in the lodge. Prior to this ceremony Ian Goddard was confirmed and then obligated as the Master Elect of the Lodge. Well done Ian, we all hope you have an enjoyable year in the chair.

Having completed all the formal activities it was due time to retire to the supper room to join the ladies and other visitors for some refreshments and socialising. Once assembled in the supper room and the necessary toasts made it was high time for Matt Turner to take charge of the evenings proceedings and act as our MC for the ensuing ‘Roast’ of Chris Wells. Matt, always the entertainer, and never reluctant to talk in front of an audience, kept as laughing for a good 30 minutes whilst he informed us of many of the experiences they had enjoyed, and gave us an insight into some of Chris’s other personal experiences, commitments, and organisational work.

The photos (to be attached) give some idea of what Chris had to endure from the roast and where possible we have tried to give a short explanation. However, if in doubt why not catch Chris or Matt some time and ask for a fuller explanation; I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

Chris is all dressed up with nowhere to go!!!!

Having eaten, listened, laughed and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, it was (sadly) time to wind things up and head for home. Most of us departed around 2330 for the ride/drive home.

Happy to meet, sorry to part, happy to meet again.

Ciao for now Pedro.
